2009 Calabar Festival

Festival 2009 featured concerts and performances by National stars like Tuface, D’Banj, Wande Coal and international artistes such as Chevelle Franklin, Ron Kenoly and Keri Hilson, among others.

The Calabar Rocks concert featured Wyclef, headlined by Weird MC, D’Banj, Sound Sultan and compered by funny-man, Julius Agu.

The 2009 edition of the Carnival took place on a Sunday, for the first time. Starting at about 3.00pm, it continued until about 5.00am the following day.

As usual, the excitement was contagious. The street lights reflected the glittering, sequined costumes of the revelers, adding a surreal, dreamlike quality to the parade. By midnight, the well-lit streets of Calabar were packed with tireless spectators, dancing and following the carnival train along the 12 km route, to the stadium.

Interpreting the theme “Land of our birth: Our people, our culture”, 4-time winner, Passion 4 band tied with the Seagull band, to win the prize.
